confirmed resistance to extreme UV radiation

In modern energy-efficient construction, particularly in façade and cladding applications where materials are exposed to long-term weathering, resistance to ultraviolet (UV) radiation has become a key criterion for assessing the quality and durability of building products. One of the most demanding and widely recognized tests in this field is the UV 5000-hour test – an advanced ageing test designed to simulate many years of exposure to solar radiation.

What is the UV 5000 h test?

The UV 5000 h test is a laboratory ageing test used to evaluate the stability of materials when exposed to ultraviolet radiation. During the test, the product is subjected to intense UV exposure for 5000 hours under controlled conditions, simulating real outdoor solar exposure. This corresponds to many years of service life under natural sunlight conditions.

This test allows precise evaluation of how a given material – such as a roof membrane or façade wind barrier membrane – responds to:

  • structural degradation,
  • loss of flexibility and mechanical integrity,
  • discolouration and colour changes,
  • reduction of mechanical performance parameters.

Benefits of choosing a membrane tested in the UV 5000 h test

Guaranteed material durability – even under conditions of intense solar exposure. This is particularly important for ventilated façades with open joints, where the façade membrane (wind barrier) remains partially exposed and is therefore subjected to UV radiation penetrating through the façade cladding.

Installation flexibility and safety – the installation of the final façade cladding or roof covering can be delayed if necessary, without immediate risk of material degradation.

Compliance with technical requirements for modern open-joint façade systems, where materials must demonstrate high resistance to long-term UV exposure.

Verified quality and durability confirmed by independent laboratory testing – a crucial factor for specialised construction projects, prefabricated systems and contemporary architectural designs.
